Rochdale on Line 16th January 2012

This week’s Enterprise word is; “Creativity”

The half-term’s Enterprise focus for year seven is Independent Learning

Expressive Arts News;

The Expressive Arts department are preparing for a half term trip to London.....a joint Art/Drama/Music venture where year ten and eleven pupils will be attending the West End show 'Wicked' followed by either an acting workshop or a visit to the Tate gallery. A fantastic opportunity!

Extra curricular work has resumed this term with Drama club, rehearsals for the Rochdale Music festival for lower school and upper school choirs, steel pans, keyboard and guitar club.

PE News;

Sixty eight students from St Cuthbert's spent the week prior to Christmas in the French Ski resort of Alpe D'Huez. Excellent snow conditions (in spite of some blizzards) resulted in excellent personal progress being made by all students. A good time was had by staff and students alike and we're already looking forward to next year's trip.

The Year 7 Girls football team won the Rochdale Schools Girls football league on Tuesday evening by virtue of winning all of their games across the course of the season. The girls are already Rochdale Schools Indoor five a side champions and on the 19th January they will represent Rochdale in the Greater Manchester Area finals in Worsley. We wish them well!

Some excellent news for one of our sporting pupils, Jonny Diba who has  been selected for the England Under 15's Boys football squad  he is currently on a training camp with them. We wish him well.

Year 7 News;

The attendance challenge will start again this term with the form with the overall best attendance at Easter celebrating breakfast together.

“You have to be in to win”  competition is a weekly draw for all year seven  pupils who have been present in school all week and received no late marks.  The weekly winner is presented with a £5 gift voucher.

Miss Burlinson from the Geography Department presented a gift voucher and certificate to the winners of the year seven Enterprise postcard competition. They were:

Martyna Korczak, Holly Peel, Niamh Tracy, Gabriel Ostafijczuk, Lucy Pilling, Shenise Hoyle, Nelda Tavares, Immaculate Vundla, Chloe Compson, Jack Mullarkey.

Well done to the year seven girls A and B football teams who came 1st and 4th respectively in the Rochdale school competition.

A polite reminder, all mobile phones must be switched off throughout the school day.

Please note year seven detentions now fall in line with the rest of the school and pupils can be issued with detentions after school.

Mrs Kay in the English department is starting a book club next Tuesday Lunch time in library for ten year seven pupils. This will be a creative approach where pupils will be encouraged to review what they have read through art and craft activities, with the main ideas for activities to be thought up by the pupils themselves.
